Frequently Asked Questions
What file formats are supported?
This viewer supports all major Gaussian Splatting formats: PLY (standard format), SPLAT (compressed), SPZ (Niantic compressed), and KSPLAT (GaussianSplats3D format). Just drag and drop any of these files to view them.
What is Gaussian Splatting?
3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) is a cutting-edge technique for creating photorealistic 3D scenes from photographs. It represents scenes as millions of 3D Gaussians that render in real-time, offering quality comparable to NeRF but with much faster rendering.
What's the difference between the file formats?
PLY is the standard output from 3DGS training. SPLAT is a compressed web format. SPZ is Niantic's compressed format. KSPLAT is from GaussianSplats3D. All contain the same splat data, just with different compression and encoding.
How do I create a Gaussian Splat?
You can create Gaussian Splats using tools like Luma AI, Polycam, or by training your own with the official 3D Gaussian Splatting code. Capture photos or video of an object/scene, process them, and export as PLY.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. This viewer runs entirely in your browser. Your file is processed locally and never uploaded to any server. If you want to share your splat, you can sign up for a free account.
